Although staff friendly and location excellent, we found the hotel hard to reach as the address was wrong on the printout we recieved. The bed was very uncomfortable and the shared bathrooms were filthy and wet. Would not recommend this hotel.

The San Maurizio hotel is centrally located, but as we found out, the center is not where you want to be in Venice. Venice is so small that staying near San Marco is not only unnecessary, it's rather a bad idea. The restaurants are far more expensive and supply rather bland, disgusting fare designed clearly for tourists, and the flavor of Venice is lost among the throngs of tourists who are your only compatriots in this part of town. The hotel itself was fine,. Tiny rooms but clean and charming--keep your windows shut at night to avoid being bitten alive.

For a shared bathroom it was distgusting, the rooms were stinky beacuse the building is so old, the sink in our room leaked, so we would have to use the clean towels to soak up the water. The breakfast was simple and was an extra charge of 10 euro each. However even though the hotel was pretty poor teh location made up for it, as it was a perfect spot, couple minutes walk from St. Marks Square shops and restaurants which was fantastic and was 35 minutes from the Venice main train station. Great Location, ok service and stinky room.

Unfortunately San Maurizio was not a good experience at Venice to me. The room to a single person was not provided with a fan or conditioned air. It was really hot at Venice and it was difficult to be in the room without apropriate ventilation. The shared bathroom could be more well arranged. The bed it was not good too. The breakfast was the best moment at San Maurizio, ´cause it was really well served. But they must be more careful with the room they rent to single persons.

The room was very noisy at night from the noise of the heating pipes it sounded like somebody knocking on a door all night and it was a bit dusty and they had not removed a flower and corkscrew from the last occupant.

The room offered was both dirty and too small. We had to pay an extra 25 Euros for a room with ensuite facilities and this again was tiny. The hotel advetised all rooms with Satellite TV and air conditioning but neither rooms we were given had them.

The bathroom was shared and although just accross the hallway from our room, it was the most digusting shower I have ever had to use (complete with crawling insects) and it was not cleaned daily despite being a shared toilet and shower. The hotel is undergoing renovations at the moment so hopefully these will be ripped out and replaced, but would recommend either paying extra for own bathroom or staying elsewhere. The lack of airconditioning in the room also made the bedrooms virtually unbearable between dawn and dusk.

We were surprised to find that it was only a one-star-hotel. After having travelled around northern Italy and stayed at 3-4 star places, this was just as good. We were actually baffled over the rating.
