I had stayed at Hotel Minerva before, but this time I did not find the room to be of the same standard, despite indicating on the form that this was what I wanted. It was older, more run down and smaller. Also, the staff tried to charge me again when I checked out despite the fact I had already paid.

This hotel is on the outskirts of the city of Siena and the city is within walking distance from the hotel but quite a long walk is involved to get into the heart, Il Campo piazza, which used to take us about 15-20 minutes. The facilites are adequate and the continental breakfast provided was good. Was pleased with our room and the ensuite. There was no room service and at times the staff were very unhelpful in dealing with our requests especially at night. Found the night staff to be impolite and unfriendly at times.

We stayed at Hotel Minerva for only two days, the room was ready 30 minutes after we got there, which was pretty good, and they had an elevator, which is rare treasure when traveling through europe. Our room was smaller than others we had been in, but it was definetly sufficent. The bathroom after using the sink or shower would smell like rotten eggs though. But our view was worth every penny. We had the largest of the three porches, and we had table and umbrella with two chairs, which was nice to sit in and enjoy the great view of the hills and bell towers. Location was good, away from the noise, but a very short easy walk to the main area. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Sienna, it was easy to reach from the train station (5 euro taxi ride) and the included breakfast was filling. Good hotel.

The staff in particular were uninterested in attempting to assist us, language was a barrier but had been overcome in all other places we stayed. Here, they were happy to not know what we were trying to say. The breakfast was 12 E each and we had elected to not have it, instead we ate at the coffee house over the road where they were pleased to see us and it cost 7E for two of us. The cost of the room would have been more accectable if the staff had been helpful. I would not stay here again.

Hotel was basic. Well located and clean but there is no restaurant and, given that it is located approximately 10 minutes from town centre, this means that guests must search out a place to eat for every meal. Obviously, it is better to have a hotel with a restaurant attached for wet or cold weather. Also, weather was very cold but hotel staff refused to turn on heating despite numerous requests from guests. Otherwise, okay.

This hotel is OK, but the rooms are a dissappointing for the price. They have extremely thin walls, so if you have noisy neighbours, then you will be disturbed. Its got a good location within the city walls though, and when we were there the streets around were farily quiet so the noise from outside was negligable. I would suggest staying in a hotel in Montalcino and taking the (excellent) bus for a day trip to Sienna, for the same price you can get far more in terms of quality there.

The Duty Manager by the name of Roberto was very helpful and patient.
