Fantastic location just blocks from everything. Very near public transit such as BART from the airport. Very helpful desk personnel and concierge. Computer available for guest use and wi-fi in lounge areas. Try Lefty O'Doul's restaurant nearby--good food and reasonable price. Entertainment most nights too.

Felt like a Paris boutique hotel! The staff were wonderful and so accommodating and helpful. I loved the convenience of the location on Powell. We had a room on the southside of the hotel so the noise level from the action on Powell Street was very tolerable. The hotel has a lot of character in its design, rooms are not the largest - more of what you'd expect in Europe - but very comfortable. Well appointed and clean. The beds were quite comfortable and we had great closet space. There was complimentary coffee and tea every morning on the second floor! I will definitely stay here on future trips, it was a very pleasant experience!

Great location, right by all the main shops, the cable car lines, BART station and Union Square. Staff were friendly and helpful. Big downside was that although the description claims the hotel has 'air-conditioning', this means one ineffective ceiling fan in the centre of the room. It was so hot in our room, that it was cooler to stand outside, despite the fact that it was 100 degrees!

This hotel is well placed for the tourist. It is getting a little dated but is good value overall. I would have appreciate a small fridge in the room. We had a very pleasant stay.

Front desk staff and concierge weren't very friendly upon arrival, but the location is wonderful, the rooms were fine and the location was great! I will still return here on my next trip to San Fran.

I was a bit disappointed staying here. The rooms whilst true to the pics, have seen a few years age, so they're a bit tired now. The bathroom is more like a hostel bathroom - very pokey. The lift in the hotel didn't work whilst I was there - not that great given they put us on the 4th floor. Also watch out that you are charged the correct amount - the internet rate I booked on somehow increased, until i questioned it. Great location though.

The primary attraction of this hotel is the location. Contrary to the name, it is about two short blocks from Union Square and is even closer to the San Francisco Centre, a prime shopping location. Market Street is one block away. The downside is that the hotel is tired. It has been treated well in terms of maintenance and they have tried, but it is an old hotel and at least on the upper floors, is more of a two star hotel than a three. Going through the hotel it appeared that the lower floors were updated more than the upper so that if you luck out and get one of those rooms, you'll do better. The staff is very good and really helpful. Parking is $34, which though high, is not bad for San Francisco. All in all, unless you really want to be in the center of the city, you'd get better value and a lower rate on Van Ness or Lombard Streets and then use public transit.

Friendly staff at Reception like Bob and Michael. Good location, stayed at the room facing Powell street. Like the atmosphere with the sound from the cable and streets. For light sleepers, you probably need to request for room facing the quiet street.
