All staff, from reception to the lady serving breakfast and the cleaners were brilliant - helpful and polite. The only problem we encountered was that there were no English channels on the tv's in room and therefore we had limited information on what was happening at a global level during our stay - although we were on holiday so perhaps that was no bad thing really. About 10 minutes walk to the main rail/bus terminal which is ideal for the airport and metro /bus travel.

The only problem I had with the Hotel XX Settembre was the room I was given, it was called the Appian, and it had no windows in it!! The ceiling was very low and therefore this made the room very dark. I had stayed in this hotel before in a different room, and had no complaints whatsoever,it's very handy for anyone who needs to be in the vicinity of Termini Station, and is clean and friendly.

The first room I was given was for a single. I was in Rome by myself, but the room (on the 3rd floor)was awful -- tiny, dark, like a monk's cell, with a narrow kid's bed. Every time I turned on the bathroom light, it made a horrible rattling sound. No way I could spend 5 nights in this dismal cell. I complained about the room and the next morning they moved me into a double, much larger and more comfortable and fine for my purposes. The carpet's worn and a bit shabby, and the decor's nondescript. But the bed was large and comfortable, there was enough light, the bathroom was spacious with a good shower, and I could open the window when I wanted a break from the powerful AC. (I know many will regard that as a recommendation.) XX Settembre had a decent breakfast, from 7-10 a.m., with pretty much the usual moderately priced Italian hotel selections (yoghurt, rolls, cereals, pastry, ham, cheese, etc), with the usual coffee selections. There's Internet access but you pay 3 euros for 30 minutes. The all-male personali (desk clerks) were pleasant and helpful. XX Settembre is a short walk from Termini, which to me is a plus as both Metro lines and buses leave from the station. There are also some good and reasonably priced places to eat nearby. The antipasto buffet at Trattoria La Famiglia is deservedly popular with locals and tourists. With the area around Termini having become an immigrant neighborhood, there also are some Ethiopian, Eritrean and Arab restaurants in the vicinity. All in all, XX Settembre was pretty much what I wanted for my fairly short stay in Rome -- inexpensive, clean and comfortable, with decent service.

This is a nice small hotel and I would stay there again. As this was a part-business, part-leasure trip we wanted a mix of services. Public w-fi broadband facilities meant we could easily access the internet from our own PC's in the room. However using the (very slow) PC in the lobby was a nightmare - the printer was known to be out of action, but we weren't told that so were frustrated when trying to print out boarding passes. I don't recommend arriving too late for breakfast. It closes at 10:00 but arriving after 9:45 will be met with sulks by the waitress! Having said all that - the location is very good and the hotel is clean, quite modern and attractive. I recommend it.

The room we stayed in was extremely dirty (walls had something that looked like mold, windows sills were dark from dirt). The room was dark (window was facing another building located located just couple of feet away). The hotel is conveniently located close to Termini rail station with a bus stop just few steps away. Fron staff was not very helpfull.

Hotel is on Macao which is a tiny street that does not appear on most maps nor on the on-line map for XX Settembre and is difficult to find. Macao is 1 street West of Via Goito, between Via Cernaia and Via Montebello; look for a tiny yellow hotel sign mid block on the East side of the street. Otherwise, hotel was lovely and convenient.

My wife and I had stayed in another hotel, also highly rated by Venere in Rome, and were very happy with it until staying at the XX Settembre. Our room at XX Settembre was much larger, the bathroom was much larger and nicer, and we paid less. It was a great hotel for a great value. Quiet, clean, well appointed room. King size, comfortable bed. The room was approximately 14ft x 15ft(huge for Rome) Would definitely stay here again.
