I stayed at the Medici in Sept 2008 with my daughter. The hotel was within easy walking distance of the station (and we were dragging pretty heavy cases) and there were a number of good cafes close by, which was handy at night when we didn't want to go too far for a meal. Our room was extremely spacious and reasonably quiet. We also liked the fact that the hotel offered free wifi. On our last night there I discovered there was quite a good shopping street around the corner, but the hotel is also an easy walk to many popular sites like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Victor Emmanuel II monument. I would stay here again.

I chose this hotel as I had stayed in it before over twenty years ago, and a friend, who was with me on that last visit, stayed there around five years ago. I e-mailed the hotel direct one week before I was due to arrive and gave them my ETA of 2200 or later. They confirmed that the room was reserved for me and offered to send a car to the airport. I accepted their offer and gave them my flight number. On the day before I was due to travel, they confirmed that a car would meet my flight. When I arrived at Fiumicino Airport there was no car. I was unable to contact the hotel as my mobile had not yet connected to the Italian network. I arranged a private car and duly arrived at the Medici at around 2230 to be advised that they were overbooked. When I expressed my displeasure at this and the lack of the car, the receptionist, a somewhat scruffy, aged man, he reverted to Italian then English and told me that there was a problem with the water but that they had arranged for me to stay next door at a better hotel at the same price. No apology was offered. As it turned out the second hotel was considerably better and I had a very pleasant stay in Rome. However as a single female, travelling on my own, I consider the Medici's incompetence was disgraceful. Fortunately I am a fairly seasoned traveller otherwise this experience would have spoiled my holiday. I have rated most of the review items as 0 as I have obviously no comment. However, I would certainly not recommend this hotel to any female lone traveller arriving late at night, or indeed at any time of the day.

We were supposed to have a double room, but instead we were given a triple due to lack of enough rooms, so in fact, we had a twin room (the third bed was useless) - too bad for a couple. Breakfast was not really good - not only because there was no meat at all... Also, we had some other problems, but otherwise, the hotel is not so bad: good location, spacious room, kind employees Nevertheless, I will try another hotel the next time in Rome.

We, my adult daughter and I, were very pleased with this hotel. It is relatively close to the Metro and the sights we wanted to see. Our room was clean,(molto importante)and nicely furnished. Plenty of hot water and toiletry provisions. The shower is made for very small people who don't use soap or shampoo apparantly, since there is not anywhere to keep those things in the little stall. However the abundance of towels,a hair dryer and good maid service made that a small inconveniece. We both felt safe and well taken care of by all the informed, helpful and friednly staff. I would go back to the Medici the next time I visit Rome.

Hotel Medici does exactly what it says on the tin with no frills. Rooms were functional but a little cramped, breakfast was good but not great, service was efficient. A fine base from which to explore Rome and it is opposite the cheap but excellent Henry Cow restaurant who do great home-made pasta.

The hotel is not in the center of Rome but this made it a little quieter. The room was quite small, shower was very poor. Not to bad for a couple of days but I couldn't stay for much longer. Breakfast & coffee were both good.
