The hotel needs some repair-work: 1. Air conditioning did not work well, so the room was uncomfortably hot. 2. Shades on one window were broken so the room became very bright in the morning, making it hard to sleep well. 3. The plug in the bathtub was broken.

An excellant value for money hotel. A word of warning do not listen to the Hotels recommendation to eat in the restaurant up the road from the Hotel. The food there was terrible.

This hotel was close to impossible to find by the maps and poor assistance (lack there of) by the hotel staff. We drove around Rome for 2 hours before surrendering to a Cab Compnay to find the way. We called the hotel 3 times and they offered NO help at all despite some English skills. The other problem we found was the noise. There was a large group of teenagers staying at the hotel (you may not have this problem). One there, the room was fine and the location is close to a main bus line that can take you right to the Vatican so that was great.

We had a leak in our bathroom and would have to lay towels down to soak up the water. Twice we commented to management, which was met with indifference, about the problem. One of the workers in the cafeteria had quite an attitude problem witnessed on several occasions. While we were there, it was a mix of Americans, English and young teenagers. The map on the site does not give you enough information to get there.

I chose the Giotto because it offers free parking (although only a few spaces). The directions on the website are incorrect - download the detailed street map from eg Google before you arrive. It is actually straightforward but only after you work out the complex one-way system in the area. For me, this involved several lengthy tours of the general area in the insane Rome traffic. From the ringroad, take the Via Aurelia to the junction with Circonvallazione Cornelia. You need to turn right (left is forbidden) then immediately do a u-turn to finally reach Via della Pineta Sacchetti after the Cornelia metro station. There are in fact small signs for Via Pineta from Via Aurelia, easily missed. Once on Via Pineta turn left onto Via Calisto II (the third road on the left past the Cornelia bus station, also easy to miss). 50m on, you reach a mini-roundabout from which the second exit is Via Cardianl Passionei, and the hotel is 50m on the left. I found the Giotto good value for money, my room was larger than many singles in Rome, clean with a good bathroom. Some noise from nearby rooms late one night but otherwise I found it quiet. But the hotel is out in a dreary suburb and although there are a few restaurants in the area and one bar (opposite the hotel, sometimes open late, but city centre prices) none could be recommended for food or atmosphere. It takes 30-45 minutes to get to/from the centre by bus or metro, the hotel explains clearly how. It is possible to eat and drink in, say, Trastevere and get back by bus, but you must leave by about 10.30pm or you will need the nightbuses or a taxi. You need a map with the bus routes and it is absolutely essential to get a 1, 3 or 7 day ticket from a metro station or tabacconist - you can't buy tickets on the bus, and finding a tabacconists open late at night is difficult! Personally, I will not stay out this far again - it's worth paying more for the atmosphere in the centre. Leave the car elsewhere.
