This hotel is located in a beautiful old bulding in the hearth of downtown Rome. Gorgeous common areas, although not well mantained, with affrescos and marbles. Unfortunately, these are the only positive points about the Grand Hotel Plaza. The rest is well below the 5-star level they claim to be, namely: 1. Customer service is below expectations. Nobody from the staff says good morning, asking for help at the concierge is like going to the post office, the room refrigerator was not refilled in 3 days. 2. Room facilities and cleaniness. We stayed in a standard room. It was quite small and with poor decoration. Basic amenities were missing (like shoe cleaner, bathfoam, bathrobe, etc.) and the bathroom wasn't really clean. We had to request cleaning service on arrival, as well as several amenities to be delivered to the room (which honestly they did once requested). In summary, I would still recommend it if you need to stay downtown and not spending much time in the room.

Our room was quite old and anything but luxurious. It had views over an alley and the complete minibar contained a Coke, a bottle of water and some tiny scotch. On the other hand, it was pretty big. The hotel is not as impressive as any other five star might look and breakfast is just average. However, it has a great location and beds are extremely comfortable.

I know that Rome is expensive, but for the price I did not expect to see three rooms before finding one that did not have broken fittings in the bathroom. The floors of the bathroom and bedroom were dirty as were the curtains. Breakfast and all reception rooms were great, and the staff pleasant. Bruno the concierge was very helpful. Overall, position was worth a lot, to be able to return to hotel in middle of hot August day was brilliant, especially as i had my 80 year old mother with me, but I did expect cleaner bedrooms for my money.

Hotel location was excellent, however the room and the services left a lot to be desired. I am convinced that I have paid too much money to stay in this hotel. After complaining with reception about the room first given to me I still believe the rooms in this hotel deserve a 2 star rating only. Very disappointed as the info and pictures on this hotel's website looked quite impressive. I will never book a hotel via website ever again.

The most attractive element is the location of the hotel (specially if shopping is on your agenda) Public rooms are fascinating and are fantastic place to escape the street noise (they are very quite) but usually empty and closed at noon time (which is a bit inconvenient). On the whole it is a great hotel ( I have stayed their twice already).

I felt the service in the room could have been improved, there were no tissues or soap in the bathroom. No diet drinks in the mini bar. The service on reception was very good, and the staff helpfull. But at breakfast I did not expect members of staff leaning right across you to get plates etc. The location of this hotel is excellent which made up for the bad things, you could walk almost anywhere, hence maybe they should also put some band aid in the bathroom.

We chose the hotel for its location and 4 star rating. We found the hotel is in a perfect location but it is so very old, with very dimly lit lighting. The rooms and facilities were old and rather outdated . We'd asked for two connecting rooms as we traveled with two kids but they were not available (which is understandable.) The registration staff the morning we arrived was very helpful in finding us one room for early check-in, though the room was extremely small, even smaller than tiny standard ones we used to stayed in Tokyo 4 star. (The other room they arranged for us later were almost twice the size of the former, in a different wing totally but still on the same floor.) Breakfast was good. In all, service was good, but for the price we paid, we expect the hotel in a better condition. They do need renovation!

Incorrect room allocated at first (double bed for two sisters). They acknowledged we'd reserved a twin but desk was unwilling to do anything about it, saying they were fully booked. It was a stand off until finally the manager informed us that he had a slightly bigger room with a king size bed and sofa bed. We said we didn't want one of us on a couch for a holiday in a 5 star hotel, but agreed to look. It turned out to be a twin pushed together, so they separated it and brought bedding. Not a great start, but at least it got sorted. Concierge cool, unless you're female and dressed to hit the town! A clean hotel with some stunning public rooms. Bedrooms - decaying elegance. Right in the centre of things in Rome. Well placed for all the best sites.

Customer service at reception and information desk incredibly slow. When checking in prepare to wait up to half an hour or more to get your booking confirmed. Further more it could take up to 10 minutes just to get your room key. The staff appears to be very busy with computer work, personal conversations, dealing with repair personal, hence it is not easy to get their attention.
