First of all the location is not great. The hotel is in the business district - think Canay Wharf but further out of the centre.
The hotel in inside a weird shopping centre thing - with a concrete roof.Read more The windows to the rooms open out in to the shopping centre - not outside! Not a great 1st impression.
There are refurbishment works going on in the shopping centre thing which starts at 7.30am!!! Even on Saturday - absolutely horrible considering I had to get a good night sleep prior to England beating France!! This is despite the receptionist confirming that the builders didn't work on the weekend. LIARS! And despite asking for a quite room on check in and making reception aware that I know about the ongoing works.
The bar is expensive - but that's Paris for you. Bar area is nice and relaxing. The breakfast was good and the restaurant area pleasant.
Trying to get a taxi to the hotel is all but impossible. After the rugby went out for a few beers and prepared myself for a night sleeping rough because trying to find a vacant taxi is like trying to get blood out of a stone. If you manage to find a taxi you're told they won't take you to La Defense!! The tube us the only real sensible option - but it stops running at 2am.
In the end I had to call a family member who was back at the hotel to organise for the Hilton to arrange a taxi to collect us from the centre. 1 hour later....4am(!!!!!) it arrived. It wouldn't come on its own so my father had to come all the way in to Paris to go back out again with us in tow. The reception staff were shambolic - a real embarrasment to the Hilton name - eventually we made it back...45 euros later - absolutely knackered. If the Hilton can't arrange a taxi then god help us all.
Asked for the Hilton to recomment somewhere for lunch. They did. When we asked them to book it for us - they called only to find that it was closed onSaturday lunchtime. Lucky we asked them to call is all I can say. They then called another place and made a reservation - we turned up and guess what... it was closed.
The reception really need to sort themselves out - or someone needs to give the customer serivce aspect a massive shake up - especially when the standard room rack rate is 550 euros!!!
I most certainly wouldn't stay again.
Stayed here for a weekend during the Rugby World Cup in September 2007 . Good Rates and easy access to Metro so can get out and about quite easily . Double Room with King Size bed which was reasonably modern but nothing special. Whole catalogue of problems as follows (not including my team losing in Rugby which was beyond the Hotel's control !)
1. Drilling Noises from nearby building work in CNIT even on weekend - likely to be ongoing for sometime
2. Offered complimentary newspaper at check in but never delivered
3. Out all day saturday and returned to find room had not been made up despite please make up room sign hanging on door all day long .
4. Key card stopped working - took 15 mins for someone to come from reception with a new one .
5 . Breakfast overpriced at 26€ . Coooked breakfast just left to dry out and go cold for several hours . Absolutely tasteless and cold . Very uninspiring. Coffee similarly made in a batch at 5am it seems and left go stale and cold in flask like coffee pots.
6. Check out - multiple spelling mistakes on bill of my name and address and tried to charge me for something from the minibar which I had not touched .
7. Chipped glass at breakfast table
8. Dirty toilet and wash basin in 1st bedroom
I complained about Room not being made up and noise etc and was given a new upgraded room by the duty manager . Feeble excuses trotted out like saying... Was there really building noise this morning ? The 'Make Up Room' sign must have turned itself around for a while and read Do Not Disturb whenever the maid was passing .
Most of these problems point to poor management giving rise to poor customer service .
Would not go near this place again even if Paris herself offered to keep me company overnight !
This is probably the best hotel in La Defense area if you are on business travel and have business in or around La Defense.
Couple of useful notes:
The hotel is embedded in a huge business/commercialRead more center called "CNIT". The center is going through a very major renovation - you could say reconstruction- and this has forced the hotel to announce very attractive rates. So, if you want to experience Hilton quality service at very resonable rates, I recommend to consider this hotel.
The rates are especially very attractive at weekends. The Metro is very close so access to the good parts of Paris is not difficult from La Defense. However, I think you should keep in mind the following:
1- "Grand Arch" metro station is a vast business area. You will need to walk quite a long time in the station.
2- There is only one Taxi stop near the hotel and in the mornings and on Sundays, you may need to wait up to 45 minutes to get a taxi.
3- Hotel concergie, who are otherwise very friendly and helpful, do a terrible job in booking taxis for you. They either tend to "forget", or the taxi is always late - sometimes up to 20 minutes. The explanation for the delays is always given in French.
4- It may sound strange but, based on my experience, at least 50% of the taxi drivers from CDG airport DO NOT KNOW where the Hotel is. The mail address of the Hotel is not helping, either. If you end up with a similar situation, you should remember to tell the driver that the Hotel is at the CNIT at Grand Arch. (of course you will say it in French! bon chance! )
HHilton members will enjoy the big buffet breakfast at the top of the hotel.
we stayed here for a weekend in the first week of July, i had been to to la defense before and had stayed in a different hotel which was also a 4 star, but this hotel was much better, in price, and theRead more room size.
we only stayed here for one night, but was nice and comfortable.
the rooms are quite big, the reception / lobby area is quite modern and great, and we got a good deal also while booking on the hotel website.
The breakfast buffet they serve is also very good.
i would come here again, if we plan to stay in La Defense area.
The staff were most helpful at check-in as they expect a tip for walking you to your room. After that, the service was downhill. Room was very large as compared to other 4star hotels. Room had old typeRead more CRT TV with limited channels. Internet access was more expensive than other hotels in Paris and charges you for using fridge to store your own items (computerized and charges by weight in/out). Only get 1 bar of soap for sink not another for shower - basically cheap products and not 4star like. Asked for 2 pairs of slippers (standard in Marriott) and got 1, which they took back during check-out (wonder if reusing for another guest). Air-conditioning and heating were not working properly and difficult to maintain consistent temperature. Hotel undergoing renovations so you hear noise all day. Very far from tourist attractions by Metro (also long walk as La Defense is a big Metro station). Staff speaks English but often gives bad information as they don't know and it's easier to just give a reply even if incorrect. Outrageous charges for laundry and internet usage when compared to other 4star hotels in Paris. Basically, this is ridiculous to call themselves a Hilton as they have such poor customer service after check-in. If you've stayed in American 4 star hotels or other Paris 4 star hotels before you'll be very disappointed even if you get a good bid on Priceline.
The location is superb as a base for seeing the sites of Paris, friendly staff etc.. but what let this hotel down was the constant banging and drilling from the construction work not sure when its due for completion, but worth checking with the hotel as it starts from 7.30AM thru to 5PM and it was impossible to sleep through it. After complaints, the hotel gave us breakfast for our weekend stay free. We stayed 29-6 to 2-7 07.
The hotel is one of the few moderen hotels in paris, good rooms near a metro , 5 minutes from the arc and great bkfst.
good value for the price.
Hotel was about to go under some refurbishment and be closed the following weekend. So, the restaurant was closed. There's just about NOTHING in the La Defense area for food so you have to ge a cab or the RER or the METRO to go somewhere to eat. Enjoyed a pint in the bar, read the paper and then left to get some food. La Defense is NOT the area if you're looking for something interesting outside your hotel when the workday ends.
We booked this break online on the Eurostar website, using the Eurostar plus hotel combination. It was a very good deal for the price, we paid £130 pp for two nights accomodation and travel. The hotel is not too out of the way and well connected by metro to all the main sites in central Paris.
The hotel is modern and very impressive as soon as you walk in and the service from the reception staff is excellent. We had a room overlooking the inside of the shopping centre next door. The room was very comfortable and peaceful and perfect for shutting out the world after a long day sightseeing. The bed was massive and you could have easily slept sideways, without your feet hanging over the edge!
The only downside to our stay was the shock we got when we discovered when checking out, that we had paid 20 Euros each for some croissants and a cup of tea, which represented our breakfast. If breakfast is not included in your stay go elsewhere!
Overall though, both the city and the hotel were great. Late November was a fantastic time to visit for the beginning of the christmas markets and lights. We hope to return sometime soon.
I have stayed in this Hilton a couple of times when doing business in the La Defense area of Paris. It is a great place for a business traveller to this very business-oriented part of Paris.
The hotelRead more is inside the CNIT exhibition building, right at the center of La Defense near the metro & RER station. This makes it very convenient to get to by public transport (RER from Charles de Gaulle or from the Gare du Nord is swift and straighforward). The hotel itself is bright and modern. The rooms are relatively large and are well-equipped with a good working area with both wired and wireless internet access. The bathrooms are large and well appointed.
Breakfast includes options for continental and for English-style cooked breakfast and offers good choice for €20 and €26 respectively.
The hotel restaurant is a bit pricey for dinner, although there are some alternative restaurants nearby (Hippopotamus right below the hotel is great for steaks).
Many of the major businesses in Paris are within a 10 minute walk of the hotel.
