Hotel Hell: The hotel room itself was beautiful, but the conditions were anything but. When we arrived, it was 90 degrees and we were eager to relax in the A/C in our room... well when the A/C didn't kick in when I lowered the temperature on the thermostat, I went to the front desk to inquire about it. I was informed that the rooms didn't have A/C and that I'd have to sleep with the windows open. I had specifically asked for a room not directly on the street (after reading a review that said it was noisy), but this request was ignored. When I opened the windows, the street noise was awful, but the front desk said that I couldn't switch rooms. When we returned from our first day out, I asked for an extra pillow, since there was only one for each of us and I need the neck support. I asked nicely, but was told "I think that it is not necessary, we have only the finest luxury pillows and you only need one!" I thought she was kidding, but she flat out refused to give me one. That night was spent drowning on a pillow folded in half in a pool of my own sweat in sweltering heat with loud traffic and people under the window that we had to leave open to survive. At 3:30 AM, when I'd almost fallen asleep, some drunk treated us to his rendition of "I'm Easy Like Sunday Morning" for about 15 minutes when finally we just slammed the windows shut and passed out in the heat. The next day we went down for breakfast and an outing after showering (with towels that were small and threadbare), and decided to come back for a quick shower before heading out for the evening. What we discovered was that the towels we had placed on the floor to be replaced had simply been hung right back up again. Needless to say, after a few days in this hotel we were delighted by the great conditions at the NH hotel in Vienna. The breakfast and the room itself were the only redeeming factors. We'll definitely never stay here again and absolutely do not recommend it.

We stayed 3 days in Gris Hotel and we recommend it! We had the apartment 309 (2 rooms, 2 stylish bathrooms and wonderful terrace), and a room with a mini-bar for 3 people. The breakfast was served near the hotel in a very nice restaurant, good service (omelett or sandwich, one juice, one coffee or tea); this restaurant we can also fully recommend, everything tastes good there. Gris Hotel has a marvelous location close to a tram station and very close by foot (10 minutes walk for senior guests)to Namesty Republik and to everything you want to see. Plus: the hotel is situated in a lovely street and square just for you and locals, and you have a pause from the tourist flocks! This could be a handicap for people who expect a five star hotel service: the instructions how to use the flat screen TV and computer are very "scarce", then the TV did not work. Then, the staff could not fix it within time but who wants to watch TV in Prag? The reception: Olga- competent and fluent english, nice and helpful; the younger recepcionist was also friendly but poor english makes things sometimes a little bit difficult. The reception is open till 8:30 pm, after this time, you can use a separate entrance (beautifully done!) using your magnetic card which you also use to open your room; there is also a lift! The hotel is very clean, and totally refurbished. Gris Hotel is a very good option if you are looking for a pricy hotel with a very good quality. If you are extremely demanding as far as hotel service is concerned, this hotel could be upset you a little bit. We enjoyed very much our stay in Gris Hotel and we will come back in autumn!!
