What a view from your balcony, one morning we had a great big American cruise ship come by --- fantastic.
You can eat at the side of the bay for breakfast or inside -- we did not experienceRead more any insect problem.
We stayed in the block which is a fair way from the reception but as there was 6 of us we loved the convinience of the extra pool.
We have been to Praia Rochia loads of times thinking the marina would be a lovely place to stay --- din't realise it was all this hotel.
If you get a family suite you wil be closer to the steps and resturants. All rooms will be sea view .
Breakfast was V Good take some brown sauce and you 'll be laughing.
We had a gym which was free and easy to use, alas not all equiptment worked but was useable.
One of our rooms was not booked nearly spoilt the whole holiday but the devious reception staff finally gave in to the fact it was their fault.
The guy who takes you on the free extended golf buggy was brill even let us have a go,top bloke.
If you get the standard double room away from the main reception don't dismay just fill the fridge with beer and stuff and take it to the pool.
Party of 6 would def book again.I would class it more of a apartment with breakie than a hotel.---- no towels recption but safe is free -- deposit obviously.
Phone B4 to confirm booking,as hotel is used for events such as the Powerboats World Championships when we were there.
Wonderful location and junior suites were exceptional, especially having a small, modern kitchenette with two-burner stove, microwave, toaster and fridge. Very nicely furnished and very clean. Staff veryRead more helpful.
Breakfast was a feast and you could certainly stoke up for the day on what was available!
Except for the last night, we ate out every night. The Dockside Restaurant located within the complex ( a short walk from Reception in the direction of the Fort) was excceptional and haven't had food or service like they dish up for years! If you order steak, they bring the steaks to your table before they are cooked so that you can see them and check you are happy. Can highly recommend the 'Variety of Shell Fish' on the menu. Plentiful and definitely value for money.
On the downside DONT try the ALMEIDA Restaurant next door. We got accosted by a lovely lady who stands outside punting for customers! She will tell you all the shining virtues of their food at the Almeida BUT its a very different story once they get you sat down. My husband ordered the locally reknown Seafood Rice. (Normally served for two persons, but the Manager said he would do a single portion). I ordered a steak. The Seafood rice turned up (eventually!) looking like a load of slop with bits of shell fish and fish chopped up. It was inedible. My steak was good, but the food cold. When ordering the wine; that was a joke. They had Cliff Richard's wine on their wine list, but when we asked the waiters about it, they didn't know about it and they didn't have it in stock! Never heard of Cliff Richard either (poor Cliff)! When the bill arrived, we were shocked to find that the single portion of Seafood Rice has not been charged at half price, but only a third of the price had been knocked off and when we spoke to the Manager he was dismissive and said the price for the Seafood Rice was due to the amount of riced used in the dish!!!! We also didn't appreciate having a big screen TV with football and people shouting whilst dining . Beware of touts outside restaurants. Good restaurants dont need this. Be warned.
Found a fabulous place to sink some great Pina Coladas and other cocktails called the Oriental on the Esplande just past the Fort on the way into Praia da Roca.
On our last night we decided to try eating at the hotel's Nikki restaurant upstairs from where you have breakfast because we were told there was entertainment on the Friday only to be told it had been cancelled after we had ordered our starter. We were extremely disappointed had even cancelled a reservation at our favourite Docksite. However, if you like nouvelle cuisine, then this is the place for fine dining, the prices also go with it!
All in all, lovely hotel, lovely holiday and really enjoyed Portugal.
Have just returned from a week in this hotel. Lovely location, next to the marina with a choice of restaurants.
Our room was cleaned everyday and replenished with towels, coffee and tea every day and theRead more choice of breakfast was second to none.
A short walk, (not for the faint hearted as involved many steps), and you were in the hub of things (bars, restaurants and shops) so was lovely to have the choice.
Would recommend this to anyone looking for a well earned rest.
Had a really relaxing break.

Very pleasant hotel in the quieter part of the resort, wonderful views over the marina from the balcony. the hotel is about 10 min walk from the beach/main resort. The room was very spacious and clean,Read more and the breakfast on a nice terrace overlooking the marina was a great experience. The staff was very helpfull and friendly. Would recommend it bearing in mind that the majority of the other hotels in Praia da Rocha are located on the very busy strip of bars and restaurants. Should I return to Praia da Rocha in the future, I would definitely go back to the same hotel. The hotel has made our stay in the Algarve a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
We have just returned from a week at Tivoli Arade and found it to be perfect for us. Myself, fiancé and parents whose first time is was abroad, so I was a little apprehensive about what the accommodationRead more was going to be like, not wanting to let them down. We were taken on the buggy to the North side which seemed far away from reception but we soon discovered that the Northside was perfect for us, it was quiet with a pool right outside our rooms which not many people used. It was a 5 minute walk down the marina to the reception and breakfast restaurant. Of course if you want the buggy to pick you up just call them, we never waited longer than 5 mins. Breakfast, there was something for everyone and so nice to sit outside eating breakfast overlooking the marina. The staff were very helpful and friendly and I have no idea why people would put such bad reviews about this place. We would definitely return.
The Tivoli Arade in Portimao, Algarve, was a major disappointment and definitely not worthy of a four star rating.
It has a great location, right on the marina with close proximity to
restaurants and beaches,Read more but the facilities are old and the service is almost non existent. We chose to stay at this hotel because of a family wedding that was held there and although it was convenient, frankly, for the price we would have done much better renting a nearby villa. Our room accommodation (family suite) had more than adequate space, but it was quite dilapidated and very dirty. There was a persistent foul odor from the shower drain in one of the bathrooms and housekeeping could only get rid of it temporarily. The pool was nice, but the water was cold on some days and towels were not provided. Upon our departure, we waited almost two hours for our bags to be brought to the lobby after giving the front desk the customary 30 minute call ahead. Fortunately, we did not have a flight to catch that day, but our driver was forced to rearrange his schedule in order to keep his commitment to return us to Lisbon. Needless to say, we will never stay at this hotel again and definitely do not recommend it!
We have just returned from our 5th holiday in Portugal over 5 years. We love Portugal and especially Portimao, but would not return to this hotel again. On booking the hotel we were advised we would haveRead more a twin room and a lounge area, on arrival it was a very small room with two twin beds together and a foldaway bed for our 18 year old, 6 ft son. We telephone reception immediately to ask them to transfer us we even offered to pay for an upgrade to allow us a larger room with a separate bedroom, but were advised there was nothing available. A few hours later we noticed a sickly smell coming from the drains and asked reception to rectify it, they sent a cleaner round with air freshner! the next day we complained in person at reception which I might add did not have their air conditioning on. They sent a plumber round on Monday but the drains still smelled and did not drain away when you were having a shower, you ended up ankle high in soapy water. the next day the air conditioning started making noises after being on for more than ten minutes and often we had to turn it off at night for a few hours at a time to get some sleep. They sent someone round but it did not fix it. The air conditioning at breakfast in the restuarant was only on on one occassion. and with 30 deg outside it was unpleasantly hot, so much so that my husband decided not to have breakfast on our last day because he was so fed up with having to go back to the room to freshen up afterwards. The view of the marina was nice and the pool was clean, but that is the only good things we have to say about this hotel.
Disgruntled family from Uddingston
travelled with my husband, two children ages 11 and 7 and my dad who is 79 on august 2nd 2007 for two weeks, just come back from this hotel. really liked it. we arrived at 9.30pm and was asked for our credit card, as we had already paid in advance i asked why. i was told it was for any thing we had in the resturant or mini bar in the room and use of telephone in room to call outside the hotel. i said thet i would rather pay in cash.
we then got a golf buggy ride to our room, with luggage, it was one of the furthest away from the main building. we were in the "north end". we had rooms 28 and 29. room 28 smelt abit damp and you could see the plaster behind the bed peeling away, but this was my dads room and lucky he couldnt smell it!. we didnt want to change rooms as we had interconecting doors into each others room and we didnt want to be split up, also the swimming pool was right outside our room. we could sit on the patio and see the children playing in the pool, which was really nice and beyond that was the marina, so we could see the boats as well.
we had booked a single room for my dad and a family room for ourselves, i thought that we would get a bedroom but we didnt. our room was the same size as my dads and we had two camp beds in for the children, but we did have enough space as the rooms were very big. the bathroom was nice as well, although my shower at home was better than theirs, ( my shower at home is not an exoensive one) still it worked at we got used to it.
the maids made up the beds every day but it was always about 5pm. i dont think the sheets were changed once as there was a small dirty mark on the outside of one of the sheets that was there for two weeks and i didnt see them being changed. the sheets didnt look dirty so we didnt say anything. towels were changed most days, the problem was they had run out of stuff when they came to our room as we were one of the last rooms, but we didnt mind as we shared towels.
there was a sea smell coming from the marina but it wasnt every day.
we could get a buggy to breakfast but you never know how long you had to wait so we walked, it was a nice walk and we could look at the fish and crabs in the marina on the way.
breakfast was buffet style, eat as much as you like, the same every day. cooked bacon, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs. baked beans, hotdog sausages, garlic mushrooms, cold meats, cheese, lettace, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, fruit (mostly tined) cereal, a varity of cakes and bread, orange juice and hot drinks. we sat outside eating every day watching the boats go by which was really nice.
after breakfast we used to go and lay on massive big four poster beds, compleat with cusions and curtains, these were outside the breakfast room to watch the world go by.
the gym was at our end of the complex and the equipment wasnt maintained, half of it didnt work correctly, but our kids had a nice time trying it out. we was surprised there wasnt anyone supervising the gym at certain times of theday to help people out who dont know how to work the stuff, also people wore their swimming stuff in there which i thought was odd.
over all the weather was fantastic, rooms looked clean and the north end where we stayed was quiet compared to the main hotel, our pool wasnt very big, but big enough and didnt get busy. if i go back i would ask to stay in the same room again as it overlooked the pool.
we had a car and mostly ate in Alvor, the buildings were quaint, narrow cobbled streets, many resturants,(most customers seemed to be british), resturants cooking fish outside (expensive), also resturants with roof top terraces were lovely.
We booked with expedia and expected a 4 star hotel as indicated on all web sites. This is more of a no frills butlins style holiday camp than a 4 star hotel. The reception is bland and more like an officeRead more reception than a hotel. We were offered no assistance of help with our luggage. the pool in late june was busy and crowded. The service in the hotel restaurant was very poor and prices were also expensive at 5 euros for a litre of water. The hotel is also pretty far from the beach and the marina that the hotel is on is pretty dead - more of a place to moor boats than a place where you can watch the world go by. After a brief stay at this hotel, we moved on to another place.
