good location, small hotel, tall and narrow stairs, nice room, no soap and shampoo, no cofee maker, friendly and helpful staff.

Two things this hotel would benefit from are fumigation and soundproofing. There were fishmoths crawling around the floor (just hope none got into my luggage) and having to listen to an amorous couple throughout the night got a bit tiring. The following night had to listen to someone plan their itinerary for the day etc. You can hear everything!TV didn't tune properly either so couldn't even drown out the noise. Another small gripe - toilet was ridiculously placed. It was so close to the facing wall you couldn't sit on it properly. Basic hotel well-placed in Bastille. Stayed for three nights, which was enough. If you're not big on sleeping go for it!

When we arrived at the hotel on the Sunday evening the guy on the reception told us that the hotel was full, and that he had no details of our booking. We then showed him the confirmation of our Venere booking, to which he replied that the hotel was full that night, but we could come back in the morning when everything would be OK. He seemed indifferent to the fact that we had nowhere to stay that night even though we had 2 children with us. It was only when we insisted that he do something about our predicament did he show the slightest interest in our problem. He suggested the name of another hotel, approximately 1km from Trois Portes that may have a room. When I asked if he could check direct with the hotel if they did have any vacancies, he looked dumbfounded at this suggestion. Having now completely lost my cool I insisted that he telephoned the other hotel, an idea that he clearly found terribly inconvenient, he finally rang & confirmed the vacancy. The guy’s monumental incompetence was confirmed the next day, as when we returned to the hotel to book in for the remainder of our stay, he clearly didn’t recognise us and compounded the previous night’s insult by asking us if we had a reservation? The hotel accommodation itself was basic to say the least. The bar was shut for “works” although there was precious little sign of any such activity during our stay. The sink in the bathroom leaked which meant that the bathroom mat was nicely soaked every morning.

Rooms are clean and the people at the counter are friendly. It is located near many pubs and restaurant. The metro is only 3 minutes walk away. There is also a flea market near the hotel. The only negative point about this hotel is that it does not have an elevator. So if you get a room on the 3rd level, you would have to painfully carry your heavy luggage up the stairs and well... I got a room on the 3rd level.

We had to smoke permanently through the closed door and the open window. But when the window was open the street noise was unbearable.

This hotel might have been OK if I had actually stayed there but when I arrived they sent me with no excuse to another place that was almost back at the metro station. This was in a street that was very noisy all night, due to night-life not traffic, and because of the heat (in mid-April!) it was impossible to have the window shut so I hardly slept at all. I would not book this place again because when I have chosen a hotel I want that to be the one I stay in, especially as the location is always an important factor in my decision.

Room small but adequate. Very stuffy when we arrived. Quiet with windows shut. Very clean except for the carpet. Reception staff range from very friendly to morose. Good location near a Metro station (which is closed for a few months). Quite a nice area. We felt safe walking the streets. Bastille Square less than 10 minute walk with lots of places to eat and drink - good atmosphere at night. Overall opinion: good value for money. I hope they change the carpets soon!

From Alison Glavin - USA
This was a great budget hotel. Our room was actually very large and the bathroom is what I expected, small but fine for basic needs. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is not in central Paris, but it is a two minute walk from the metro stop right on the same street. There is no lift which was the only downside, but it was worth it for the convenience and service we received. I was stressed out after looking for a budget hotel, but am VERY happy with the decision I made. I would definitely return to this hotel.
