I think the Jarry Hotel is a really good place to stay if you don't want to spend loads of Euros on accomodation. It was clean,well- located and safe.

Rooms are very small and plain, but good for the price, and clean as well. We paid 40 Euro a night for a double with shared bath, and never had to wait for the toilet or shower. The location is rather shady, I wouldn't have felt safe walking around at night without my husband. My biggest complaint is the noise, you can hear everything and everyone. It was on a noisy street, plus it seemed like people clomped up and down the stairs late into the night. Although it is not near the touristy stuff, there is a Metro nearby so getting around is easy. Also, avoid the breakfast. It's 5 euro for coffee, juice and some bread. Not really worth it. If you are looking for something clean and cheap to just sleep in, then this place is good. Just be sure to bring some ear plugs.

Very close to Gare de l'est and Gare de nord, the hotel is very easy to get to. As other people have said, it's in a very ethnic area, with afro haidressers everywhere, but at no point did I feel unwelcome. The hotel itself is tucked away in a side street but is quite noticeable from the main road (Strasbourg). The room we had was extremely small and required the double bed to be in a corner of the room. This was fine for us, as it was only a cheap place for us to sleep, but other people would probably require more room. The sink was very handy as it was not ensuite and there was also a bidet. The view was into a square, 4-walled shaft, so little sunlight came in and it acted to channel all the noise from upper and lower rooms, making it noisy to keep the window open at night. The stairs are tight and winding as others have stated and there is no lift, so be warned! Also the toilet door on my floor (3rd) did not lock properly, which led to quite a shock one morning when the cleaner opened the door on me!!! Overall, the hotel is good for a cheap place to stay if you're not too fussy, but remember - you get what you pay for!

Honestly I do not recommend this hotel. It is very basic. I stayed there in July 2007 and paid 55euro for a single room. On my way back I stayed in another hotel for 44 euros and it was much better and even a better location. If you find a good deal for this hotel in the range of maximum 40 euros per night - you can stay there. Otherwise do not waste your money. The room was very dark and bathroom was not up to standards. No soap in the room. I had to go to the reception and ask for one! The receptionist was very nice and helped me with my suitcase, but I felt too bad for my 55 euros.The location is near Metro line 4 (Chateau D'Eau).When you leave the metro, turn right, pass "ED's supermarket" and follow in the director of Gare.I was not impressed with the location, actually I did not feel that safe.

Located in an unsafe area. The staff are very nice. Noisy surrounding by traffic and dirty and bitten by mosquito.
