A beautiful grand old hotel right in the centre of the city, the perfect location for everything! Staff were well informed, polite, helpful and friendly. Rooms were a good size, with all amenities, including wireless internet in the rooms and a bathtub in the bathroom. Very good value for money. Minibar was slightly pricey, but much less than other 5-star hotels, and considering the price of drinks in Scandinavia, was fair enough. Beautiful decor and paintings round the old building, and the Skylight bar was nice for an evening, and overall it was a very pleasant stay. Tea and coffee in the rooms would have been a nice extra but that is only a minor thing, it's not like there is a lack of coffee houses near the hotel. Breakfast buffet was superb, and on Sunday was moved to a larger room to accommodate all the selections. I have stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels, but this one I would recommend and would use again.

This hotel is rated 5 STAR though, my friend and I stayed for 3 nights and found that everything WASNT up to 5 star standards.. IE) The pool (cleanliness), the carpets needed hoovering.. We even had problems checking in as they couldnt understand that we were staying for 3 nights?? (how difficult is it to present the invoice correctly?!!!). They even cancelled our last night and we had to argue with them and show them proof that we were staying there and we had PAID!!! . :( On a positive note.. the hotel is in a great location and does have a great breakfast room with plenty on offer for breakfast (covering healthy options, Full english, continintal etc!). On a whole, if you are looking for 5 STAR facilities, I would suggest that you stay at another Oslo hotel or the SAS RADISSON.. cleaner/better facilities! (I would rate this hotel as a 3 star - being the assertive traveller that I am - I do stay in a lot of 2-5 star hotels on a regular basis)!

Falls below the standard I expect of a 5* hotel.

We stayed in a room that probably had not been occupied for quite some time before we arrived - the tap water was rust-coloured initially and improved to a slight yellow tinge for the rest of our stay (of 3 nights). Of a hotel with probably thousands of guests, there was only 1 single computer available for internet access etc. and it was constantly in use - I asked one of the receptionist to let me know when it's free and was never told when it's free. Although the hotel was priced and marketed as a five-star hotel, it felt more like a four star hotel. For example (and in addition to the above), in the previous five-star hotel I stayed at there were porters and airport transfers - there were none of that here. Overall disappointing.

The hotel is nice but a little bit older than expected. The smell of cigarettes in the rooms should be considered as the part of the history of this hotel.

The hotel I am sure is normally very nice but on the weekend we were staying the hotel was taken over by a major party. This restricted access to a number of the facilities and the hotel was not cleaned quickly after the event.

Beautiful old fashioned hotel with great character. Worth going to Oslo again just for the breakfast! It was excellent. Great value.

The Grand is possibly the best located hotel in Oslo - fronting onto Karl Johan's Gate opposite the Norweigan Parliament and just a short walk along the road from the royal palace, Oslo central station and the national theatre. The refurbished rooms within the hotel are decorated to a high standard and are very comfortable. The rooms that have yet to be refurbished are not nearly so nice - dull wall colourings giving the impression that the room is not clean when this is, in fact, not the case. These rooms were also previously smoking rooms and although smoking in the hotel is no longer allowed, the rooms still smell of stale tobacco. Breakfast at the hotel is excellent and the breakfast room is large enough to simultaneously cater for any tour parties that may be staying at the hotel, business guests and private parties. An impresive feat. The bar at the top of the hotel overlooking Oslo is a great place to finish the day.
