There are some rooms that are newly renovated. These rooms are OK. You have to be very persistent a achive one of these if you have booked throgh an agency instead of the hotel directly.

A very old and run down hotel, but an excellent location for seeing the city.

Really old hotel, terrible shower. We got upper respiratory infection because of the airconditioning. Big (quad) room was a plus. The location was exellence.

We went to New York around St. Patric's Day, and had the bad luck of having neighbours next to us that celebrated quite loud and long. The hotel staff really should have taken notice and asked them to quiet down. Other than that we are pleased with the hotel. We got a large room and were able to sleep for as long as we wanted.

The location is very good, opposite Madison Square Garden, close to Macys & Empire State Building, and a short walk from Times Square. There are also a few bars close by that are very good. The hotel itself is rather basic, the rooms would benefit from a refurb as they look rather drab and dreary, but are otherwise functional. The hotel bar is OK and the Internet facility (pay per use) was useful. I was disappointed to discover that there was a kennel club convention in the hotel when we stayed, so the hotel was overrun with dogs. It can be rather annoying to have barking dogs in the room next to you when you're trying to sleep, and I'd hate to have to stay in the room populated by a couple that had 4 dogs staying with them!

This is not hotel for people used to stay at least European 3 star hotels. They do not have even sewing kit. Dirty bathroom. The bed will collapse very soon. Excellent location. No doubt good hotel for low budget travellers.

The location of this hotel can't be beat. It is right across the street from Madison Square Garden so if you are arriving in NYC by bus or train, very convenient. Right next to the Herald Square Mall, down the street from Times Square, etc. However, the hotel is very run down and in bad shape. Our room was generally gross. The walls were cracked and peeling, the bathroom was grotty - gross, stained tile, rusty faucets, strange industrial toilet, and a mass of cords coming out of the wall under the sink inside of an open rusty box! The comforter on our bed was extremely filthy looking - stained, worn and old. We did not cover up with it! The sheets were clean though. Also, the cabinet the television was in fell apart when we opened it and the chair in the room was frayed with stuffing coming out. La mps in the room were not bright so the room was very dim. Would recommend simply because the price was good (for NYC) and the location was fantastic.

Hotel was in great location, staff were friendly enough. However rooms in dire need of re-decorating. TV hardly worked, bathroom had mould in it!

my only complaint is the lack of proper lighting in the room, two lamps are not adequate to light such a room and also the slowness of staff at the safety deposit boxes, other than that an excellent hotel i will definitely recommend!!

Hotel Pennsylvania New York is in dire need of retrofitting. The rooms were musty, and all shower heads / faucets were leaking (I stayed in different rooms as I moved in and out of NYC during my last visit.) The AC was not functioning in some rooms. Rather depressing!
