We tried to use in-room internet but it wouldn't work. We were told we would not be charged but on check out it was still on our bill, plus an additional uknown charge. Both were removed after talking to the checkout desk. Be sure to put your 'Do not disturb' sign out each night - house keeping were very keen to get into our room each morning. There are not many good places to eat in the area but it is convenient for using the subway, which we did, to travel to various parts of the city to try out different restaurants. The hotel has their monthly guest appreciation day while we were there and we had free drinks and nibbles in the lobby one evening. I believe some other hotels offer this every night.

My daughter and I were exceptionally pleased with our room, and everything else....great location so close to Penn Station and numerous subway stations...along with the gigantic Macy's stiore. But a good walk home in the evening from MoMA, and an easy, if healthy, strole to Times Square and Rockefeller Center. Only comment is the poor engagement by a staff member at the concierge's station. Stood for several minutes across from her at the desk, the only customer standing there, and finally had to interrupt her before she'd stop doing her computer work. Just not the normal attitude by any of your other staff or by staff at any other of the probably 3 dozen hotels I stay at for my job each year. She did not glance up and smile and say she'd be with me in a moment, etc. In other interactions with this same young woman she was brusque and just not interested in helping us.

The room was noisy...not from the street but from some appliance (bathroom fan? fridge?) from the room below...other than that the folk were pleasant and it was a large, clean, nice room

I stayed here late June 2007. I would come back: the only real disadvantage is that it can be very noisy from the streets outside at any time due to its location. I was on 8th floor but going higher probably wouldn't help that much. However the rooms with a kitchenette are great, spacious and therefore noise from within the hotel (which I cope with far less easily) is minimal. Otherwise, it's a great location, with Madison Sq Gdns, Macy's, Penn Station, a big Borders etc on your doorstep. Service is very good, all facilities, nice affiliated bar next door where big apple martinis can be had for $9. Your luggage can be kept for you on your last day until your flight time. Subways are at Penn Station (out of hotel, go across the road and down one block) or for the 1,2,3, turn right out of the hotel and down to 31st Street, 5mins either way. Just remember your earplugs. (Or try watching television staying on one channel, doesn't matter which one, for more than 5 minutes).
