There was a problem with the fridge which froze things no matter what setting you put it on, as I was trying to self-cater eg. for breakfast. Ended up with frozen milk, juice, yoghurt. Had a beer bottle in the mini-bar that almost exploded. Thought the bed linen was pretty crappy, but warm enough. The room was next to the office which was a little bit noisy. Positives: allowed me to check in at 0730 without forewarning. Brilliant. Loved the location. Easy to walk to theatres, Comedy Festival venues, Lygon St at Carlton, shopping meccas in the CBD! etc. Bus shuttle to airport was good. I don't think it is really 4 star though. More 3 - 3.5.

Reception staff great and very helpful. the room could have been a little bit cleaner and servicing of the room needs to improve. We had a great weekend and would stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is conveniently situated to all the sights in Melbourne. There are also many fine restaurants close to the hotel. A nice place to stay for a couple of days.

Room hadn't been dusted recently. There was a layer of dust on the top of the bedhead, and a dust film on walls above bed (visible when lying on the bed and looking up the wall - I'd suggest the cleaners occasionally look at the room from the guest's perspective!). There was black mould in grout between bathroom tiles. Bathroom had a mildewed smell. Also there was a deposit of yellowish-green substance stuck on the wall next to the bed that looked very much like dried snot. Needless to say I didn't analyse it any further, but it was in exactly the spot you'd expect if someone had cleared their nose while lying in bed facing the wall. (If you pas this info to the hotel, tell them room 303 next to the single bed) I'm pretty tolerant of a bit of grime, but my wife was disgusted with the mouldy bathroom and the snot on the wall. This used to be her favourite hotel in Melbourne for its convenient location. The drop in standards since Mercure took over is very disappointing.

My only problem is that I couldn't get the television in the room to work. I followed instructions and used the remote control, but there were no further instructions appearing on the screen for me to follow in order to make it work. However, I was out of most of the time that I didn't bother to spend more time to get it to work.

loved the location - just short stroll to Chinatown and good access to Bourke St trams. Loved the bath and that the room was quiet, light, at the front and had a bath and kitchenette. I will stay again if he price is right.

On the internet is Crossley marked as 4 star hotel - in my opinion is it rather an 2 star ! Facilities as swimming pool and fittness is present on the hotel according to the internet side for Crossley. It shows up to be a ticket to the public bath an fittnes center in Melbourne 2 km avay from the hotel :-( I rented two superior room - the rooms were not of any superior standard but quite ordinary rooms. This hotel is oversold on the internet ! And i will rent another hotel next time i visit Melbourne. Best Regards Sven Nielsen

I have been going to this Hotel for some years, and have been extremely pleased with service, location, food. However there are signs that it will need maintenance and a major makeover in the next two years if it is to remain competitive.

Hotel was pretty good but quite noisy during the night. Noise from the street and also from hotel guests. Beds weren't very comfortable. Room Heating was not sufficient. Light entering from under the main door at night - should be covered.

Decidedto eat out Saturday evening at place called Egusto. Asked reception if they could get telephone number for us to book table but they had not heard of it. Turns out to be well known restaurant at Southgate.

Hi, although we found the hotel good, I was dissappointed with having to pay an extra $18 for valet parking my vehicle. This was only alerted to me on checking out and not when checking in and thought that this was included in the rate! I have stayed at this hotel once before and at that time was inclusive of the rate. When we arrived we were told that my vehicle would be valet parked but no mention of an extra charge was made! It would have been polite to inform me of this charge then!

The hotel room was large and spacious and they were in the process of renovation so it should be even nicer in the future. The location was fairly central and you were close to transport links. For us, the most outstanding thing was the helpfulness of the reception staff. We stayed over Christmas and they managed to get us a booking for dinner on Christmas day just two days before.
