The room I stayed in needed refurbishing. The bed was torn and worn. The carpet was stained. The lighting was dim in the bed room/sitting room, too dim to read by comfortably. I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past five years, and I haven't seen improvements in the rooms. They are tired and dingy looking. The bathrooms and kitchen areas, however, are decently sized and kept quite clean.

The staff were very friendly and polite and the location is excellent for the embankment which is a great place to stroll and take in the street performers.

I was generally satisfied particularly with the location. A few things rankled though. The shower was woeful even after being repaired. There was just no pressure or flow even though both were great in the bath. And you couldn't adjust the temperature - it was hot or cold and nothing in between. Forget the breakfast! A waste of money in terms of range and quality. You can get much better anywhere outside the hotel far cheaper. Apart from these gripes it was good though.

Have stayed about 6 times. Has good kitchen facilites in the room. Purchase breakfast and other meal requirements at TESCO in Covent Garden and look after yourself - dine out as you feel the need.

Third stay here. Housekeeping not good. No plug in sink. Wardrobe handle fell off, not surprising as it had been repaired with a woodscrew. Pull out beds starting to look tatty. Think an offer at one of the Hiltons will be worth the £35 difference next time.

This hotel was a palace to us after staying in some really crappy hotels in Paris and Italy. It was spacious, clean and had a shower we could move around in. Our only complaints were that the pull out bed in the studio was bumpy - not flat and there were broken tiles in the kitchenette that, when stepped on, shot water out form them. No doubt there is a leak somewhere in the kitchen or the bathroom that leaks under theses tiles. The free internet access was very nice. Overall, it was a good stay.

Great location. Ideal for family accommodation. Only drawback in the rooms is that doors have very strong spring closing systems.

Central location and reasonable price. Good kitchen facilities and pleasant ambience.

Our room was on the fourth floor overlooking Northumberland Avenue. It only had a very high window which was too high to see out of and this made the room rather gloomy; a bit prison-like. Apparently this is the only floor to have this problem. I would try and avoid this floor if staying there again.

The price for the location can't be beat, and the kitchette is quite good. Since we last stayed there in 2005, the carpets have become stained and need replacing. Staff is helpful, and the hotel is surprising quiet.

The provision of an ADSL service in the room is a big plus. The carpet is a bit worn.

Stayed here 2 years ago and it was fine. Complained immediately I saw the room this time, stained carpet, dirty windows (which didn't open) and filthy curtains. Said they couldn't move me. Bottom of a long light well that kept the room dark and airless. The lobby staff are very helpful and the position wonderful, but they should not rent no. 115 out. It is sub-standard. I had specified I wanted a room with a street view but no notice was taken of this. Pity, I probably won't stay here again.

Anyone travelling with family/kids look no further. The great central location to the two subway stops, bus stops, and the minimarkets around the corner make getting around to the important landmarks very easy. The facilities are in the process of being re-done so it will soon be all smoke free. The mini kitchen provides cooking flexibility & with a family is more important than extra posh hotel setting, in our opinion. The staff were kind & if you happen to get assigned a room you don't care for, like ours was 6th floor but smelled like smoke, they were more than eager to please and switched us to a different room and explained that as of July 1st 07 there will be no more indoor smoking in England, and all the rooms will finish being refurbished. You are also about an 8 minute walk direclty across the Thames to Waterloo station where you catch the Eurostar for the chunnel to Paris which was really convenient for us.
