We spent 2 nights in this hotel - the location is great, right on the door step of all main attractions of Edinburgh. The staff were great and the breakfast was nice. Will definetely use this hotel again!

In 2006 when i stayed here, renovations were taking place which did not add to the enjoyment of the stay. The room was small, smelled badly of cigarette smoke and you could hear people in other rooms. I left early. Restaurant however was good.

Staff very friendly and helpful, food fine, location excellent. An old damaged shower door let the side down - had clearly been in this state - for some time. Otherwise good.

We have been visiting the Old Waverley for a number of years and it's ongoing refurbishment is improving its standards. The Hotel staff are very friendly always making us feel welcome

Friendly staff, good room with good extras and recently fitted new carpet. Good breakfast, even for those latecomers! Price could have been a little more competitive but I'd still recommend the hotel as an ideally located place in Edinburgh.

Hotel is in an excellent location, rooms were clean and tidy. However, it seemed like people in the next room to us had been smoking because there was a distinct smell of tabacco in and around the door to the room. The service provided was excellent, however the bar on an evening could be better equipped, at times it seemed like the only person serving could not cope. In saying that, the hotel is in a prime location and we would stay again.

My friend and I stayed at the Old Waverly Hotel as a gift for her Birthday as we were attending a show at the Edinburgh Playhouse. The rooms where clean and well presented but the shower curtain did not reach the bath and therefore the water filled the bathroom floorwhen taking a shower. The windows did not open and the curtain tie back was held together with a safety pin. Not what you would have expected from this quality of hotel. This was ok as we were only using it as a base for the one night. However, when we went for breakfast the next morning it took three attempts to get a hard boiled egg correct, and being a native Scot I find this highly embarrassing for any tourist staying there. Also if you were a tourist was staying there for a totally Scottish experience you would have been hard pressed to find someone serving who was actually Scottish.

I cannot rate this hotel as when we arrived it was too early to check in. When we went back we were told there was a 'mix up' with the booking and there was no room available. We were sent to the Royal British not far away but it did not have the hot buffet breakfast we had paid for.

Windows were not double glazed which meant room was both cold and noisey.However extensive work was being carried out to improve rooms and assume new windows will form part of this.Both location and breakfast were superb.
