On arrival,our requests were not understood/we could not understand the staff as they spoke very broken english.This made communication difficult.This was odd, as in a business like a hotel I would expect communication to be fairly crucial! On the day of check-out we rang several times on reception and nobody came so we had to leave the keys on the side, and we were unsure of the reservation/booking situation and if it was finalised with the hotel. We presumed it was all fine but having had no feedback on what the procedure was with our booking from the staff at any time, nor were they interested in reading our voucher when we handed it to them, it was all a little unclear as to what we needed to do, and made us feel on edge! My partner also got bitten badly all over from sleeping in the bed on the first night. The hotel was ok and food was fine but the weak service/facilities put a downer on it.

On arrival at the hotel we were shown to a very dark and dingy basement room which smelt very strongly of cheap air freshener,the purpose of which we found out later was to mask the damp musty smell. We contacted reception to explain that the room was unnacceptable,but was told by the girl on reception that the manager was not available and anyway there was no replacement for us. As it was International rugby weekend in Edingburgh the option of finding another hotel at short notice was not practical and so we resigned ourselves to making the best of it. The next morning we again confronted the receptionist and insisted on a room change, this time she offered a three bed room upstairs which meant that our whole party had to sleep in one room whith a matress on the floor for the fourth person, but at least the room was dry and smelt acceptable. Considering that this hotel had been booked and payed for in full back in August 2005 we felt very badly treated

Excellent location by the Airport Link Bus, which is well within walking distance from bus stop. Good Scottish hospitality and the facility is clean.
