Overall, this was a pleasant stay. The location is brilliant if you want to be in the centre of the city. The reception isn't great, as it's just at the back of the bar, but it serves the purpose. There are a lot of stairs, so if you're not able enough for stairs, this isn't for you - I don't think there's a lift. The room was nice, the bed was comfy, and the shower was really good. We were in the John Logie Baird suite, which has a lot of character, as I imagine the rest of the rooms do - all different I believe. The breakfast was very good. I would recommend to people who aren't looking for a flashy modern hotel, this isn't that, but it has character and is very central.

Very odd decor and furnishings in the room (including the skeleton of a small animal in a case and large moths and insects in frames on the wall). Not a pleasant room to stay in and very limited facilities elsewhere in he hotel.

Hotel accomodaton is badly in need of redecoration. Dirty carpets, skirtings and peeling wallpaper. Poor value for money. Staff tried hard in difficult circumstances. Breakfast very slow and order incorrect. Sorry, but will not return.

The rooms are full of character which is the making of this hotel, along with its location. The breakfast is very poor. Service was very slow on both mornings and tables had not been re-set ready to eat with a number of items having run out. They serve porridge which is a nice touch, but was actually inedible, although could have been used to put back the peeling wall paper on the stairs! All the staff we met were exeptionally friendly though.

Very disappointed to be allocated a room without an ensuite bathroom (not made aware of this at the time of booking). Very expensive for a room with a shower across the hall way. Breakfast was very average and had to find the waitress before being served!

The bedroom wall 'decor' of encased beetles, spiders and butterflies, etc. were perhaps inappropriate. The central location was EXCELLENT.

A bit off putting at first as you have to go through logie bairds bar to get to reception. But cleanliness, friendliness and location are great.Full scottish breakfast certainly sets you up well for the day!! Right on the Royal Mile and Princess street is only round the corner. For one like myself who isn't into walking everywhere.....local attractions are a decent but managable distance.
