+ The small Cove it looks over. Excellent beach in the next village Priar da Marina. Out of season it is excellent value. Parents with v. small children it looked very good for, with a large grass areaRead more to play on. Snorkelling in the cove.
- Nearest beach is about 1km. A car is essential for access to larger beaches. The evening entertainment didn't add any value to our holiday, but we were 20years younger than the average guest. This is very much a golfers retreat.Hide
+ The breakfast was great, and the view was awesome!

Very nice hotel in quiet location. Very picturesque. Worth paying a bit extra for a sea view. Breakfast was very good with wide choice of food. Swimming pool is not very big but not a problem as lovelyRead more beaches within walking distance. Childrens paddling pool also available. Lots of sun loungers. Rooms were comfortable and clean with nice big balcony. Hotel had lovely sandy beach although tide comes in the afternoon. Lovely area but no good if you have any mobility problems! The area is extremely hilly. Lots of lovely restaurants within walking distance. Fairly quiet resort in village of Carvoeiro. Two other lovely beaches either side of hotel within walking distance if you can manage the hilly walk. Sea is quite rough but lovely climate as breeze helps to keep you cool. We hired a car and found a lovely little village called Alvor, all cobbles streets and worth a visit. Lots of interesting caves and coves to explore. We had a wonderful and I would recommend this holiday and would visit this area again. Hotel entertainment is a little cheesey but very pleasant to sit in the bar on the balcony sipping cocktails in the evening.Hotel staff were pleasant and helpful.
My husband and I stayed at the Tivoli in August.
The view from our room was absolutely beautiful. We spent so much time on our balcony because you couldn't find a nicer view anywhere else. It is definitelyRead more worth it to upgrade to the ocean view.
The small beach was nice, but the water was very cold. I went swimming every day, but found it a bit too cold to really enjoy my swim. Also, during high tide, it can get rough (the beach disappears and the water crashes against the rocks).
As others have noted, the beach is not entirely private. We saw a lot of locals coming around 4pm (high tide) to enjoy the rough water. If you tried to go down there at this time, it was packed!
The pool was always full of kids. Very loud. We went in once but gave up (there were just too many people).
Breakfast was average. They had a big selection, but nothing tasted too great.
Do take time to walk along the cliffs. The views are spectacular and it is a real treat to be up so high. You can go up both sides, and each side is worth a visit.
The town of Carvoeiro is one of the ugliest I have seen. It is filled with tourist shops and restaurants and not much else. Most of the restaurants seem to be run by British people. In fact, you would almost think that you were in Britain (except the weather is better). For the most part, it is packed and it is hard to walk around. We did eat at Elle and Ella - the food was wonderful. Try the mushroom appetizer - it was so good! We had tuna and onions at Oasis restaurant, and it was decent.
We had a lovely week at the Almansor the first week of September, so not too many kids and the ones that were there were in the kids club so didnt really notice them. We got a great deal with Hotelopia.comRead more for the room (6th floor courtyard facing - but totally fine) with breakfast (which was great) and also got the cheapest flights in the last 3 years of going to Portugal. There are so many great restaurants on the walk down to the main square that you really dont want to go half board although we spoke to people who had and they said the dinner was first class.
Ele and Ela definately the best food and not that expensive, also try Happy's (very nice and funny owner) and have a sizzling fillet steak on a stone at Casa do Beef. There were also many great bars some with decent entertainment.
The pool at the hotel was lovely and never crowded, the view of it and the sea from the bar is very picturesque, we always managed to get a couple of beds any time of the day, and the private cove was a great feature although you had to go at the right time to see some sand because the tide came right in. Would definately return here soon.
Enjoyed our weeks stay, lovely hotel in a great place, although not recommended for people who do not like walking up hills
We loved the Tivoli Almansor . The staff and facilities were very good, even though we were unable to get a sea view room. An excellent choice was offered for breakfast. We ate in the restaurant a coupleRead more of times which was very good value with a superb choice including freshly grilled fish or meat on the barbecue.
Now for the down side. This was our first trip to the Algarve and I was so disappointed. It was so overdeveloped and ugly and I don't just mean Carvoeira. We had a car for 2 weeks so went to numerous places, but never discovered any traditional pretty fishing villages.
The highlight of the holiday was a trip on the pirate ship leaving from Portimao. This travelled along the coast and took us on smaller boats into lots of caves. Delightful!
+ Sea views; swimming pool; reception and resteraunt staff
The Alamansor is a fine hotel in fantastic surroundings but there where a few minor issues that provided mild annoyance but were certainly not prohibitive to having a good time.
The hotel provides a lotRead more of facilities that you sometimes associate with 5 star facilities (gym, spa, indoor pool, free internet access) so on that front it got a definite thumbs up. Ok, the gym was small but who is really going to use it :-) There are only three PCs with internet access and of course the kids spend most of the time on there but again, if you really are desperate for access then bring your laptop (there is wi-fi available in parts of the hotel).
Minor niggle number one was the reservation of sun loungers. This was the first year that I found myself having to book a sun lounger with a towel in the mornings - something I have never done before and am loath to do but this is one of those times you just have to run with the herd. And if you have problems with people taking said sun loungers after you have put your towel down then best to leave a book or a newspaper on them - something personal that indicates you may be back soon :-)
The "private" beach is in fact not really private - I saw quite a lot of people coming down over a nearby hill to use it - but the fact is that if you are not a guest of the hotel then its quite difficult to get to. The beach is also fairly small and dependent on the tide there may be no real beach to speak off! Which suits me since I spent most of my time in the water. Water itself was cool but certainly bareable and you could spend a fair amount of time in the water once you got used to it. Tide can be quite strong though. Oh, and there is a dive centre for those interested.
This is quite a child friendly hotel so expect lots of them running around. Noise level can be very high around the outdoor pool but only became REALLY annoying when they appeared at the indoor pool.
The room was quite small for what we paid I thought but it was cleaned every day and unlike some hotels we got the double bed we asked for. We were over looking the inner court yard - the only floor that had it (6th floor) so it was very peaceful and relaxing.
The other 5 floors all seem to provide a sea view of some description. However so does the bar and in fact some rooms are right next to the balcony at the bar. That may prove a problem if you got to bed early! But the bar does close at 1am.
There is entertainment in the hotel and kids are catered for but other reviewers may be better suited to talk on this subject than myself.
Pool room and Premiership football shown in the room opposite the bar.
Service and helpfulness of the staff was top class. Yes, the service might have been slow (on one or two occasions) but given how busy they were this should be expected. However 9 times out of 10 service was prompt.
The hotel lies at the top of a hill which contains many pubs and restaurants. The walk to the bottom of the hill is about half a mile (whoever said its a mile is talking through their hat).
Restaurants I would recommend (although slightly on the expensive side for the resort) are Ele and Ela, Villa Medici, and Primavera (indoors, not the garden). O Cantanhina(spelling) done some good grub as well at cheaper prices. Maximes was recommended and we went there twice. First night fantastic, second night disastarous. Make of that what you well.
Resort itself was fairly quiet in terms of night life. So very relaxing.
All in all, a general thumbs up for the hotel and resort and I may have enjoyed it more if the hotel was just a wee bit quieter.....
may go back in a few years when we have kids of our own.
