We were told, as you are showing here, that we were looking for the Taverna Hotel. Having spent an hour walking around looking for it we were very lucky to find the sign showing 'Taverna Car Park'. The hotel had changed ownership and name to The Mecure earlier this year and when we complained we were told that they had informed all travel agents. After a long journey this caused us much aggravation, especially as we had to find somewhere to park our car to allow us to go looking for the hotel. They had also withdrawn the restaurant facility that we were expecting and the foyer was in turmoil as they are in the process of revamping. There were also no room facilities to make tea/coffee. This was not what we would expect and were led to expect in a four star hotel. We will not be staying there again. Jean & Robert Burkle

very helpful staff from front office to housekeeping concierge etc.organised tours,taxis etc in efficient and happy manner special praise for victor.Staff spoke good english

Great location, friendly and helpful receptionists, good bed (important to rest after a lot of walking), ordinary breakfast, under reconstruction (24€ for getting spots on the car in the garage!), the hotel's position is wrongly marked on the map you get on the web page (phone the hotel for direction-people won't help, this is a new Mercure). Overall this was a comfortable stay however a gym would have been great along with room service and an iron.

very good location on pedestrian section and close to river. Good breakfast and good room size.Restaurants near the hotel are expensive and food not so good but there are two train stations close by so we were able to go elsewhere where food was cheaper and better. the fact that we had Budapest card helped. We would certainly stay here if we visited Budapest again. Wish it was a little cheaper though.

I booked this hotel expecting at least the basic facilities of its 4* claim! Nothing. No restaurant, no light snacks from the bar such as sandwiches, not even tea and coffee making facilities in the room! Reception booked me a table at a Hungarian restaurant 10 mins walk away at 10.10pm (I'm female and alone!) and when I got there it was closing. Never again.

I spent 3 days in this hotel, based on reviews on tripadvisor.com. My reaction is that I would never stay there again. My main points are 1. The central location is very handy for shopping, and most sites and trams etc are within walking distance. 2. The central location is also a prime target for street prostitutes and also for club promoters of lapdancing clubs - who are VERY persistant and ignored totally by the polics 3. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially booking restaurants and giving directions 4. The hotel has a very run down feel to it, despite alterations that are underway. It is certainly not worthy of its 4 star rating. In short, would I stay there again? Probably Not

I had booked the Taverna Hotel because of its highly rated Restaurant Gambrinus, the hotel video further exalted its praises. It was a total let down, while the service was attentive the food was terrible, my starter was so over salted I could not eat more than one fork full and the main course was little better, the waiters were appologetic saying things had changed for the worse recently, I did not have a sweet as all I wanted by then was to leave - Hotel 7 out of 10 - Restaurant 1 out of 10.

Take care when you go outside into the main shopping street there are a lot of dodgy people there to change money and so on.
