I stayed at The White Hotel in Brussels for 2 nights with my partner. We had booked a double room but received a twin room. The woman on reception was icy and did not smile once. It was like walking into a snooty boutique. My partner is a designer and so was interested in the design features there but we needed a hotel, not a design gallery. It was the most pretentious place I have ever spent money in. Although the furniture etc was quirky, it did not make up for the sense of unwelcome that we received. We didn't see one other guest during our stay even though the hotel advertised a contemporary looking bar. It was all very clinical. Arriving at night, we got a taxi from the train station and were very disappointed that we were at the other end of a motorway far from the city centre. The tube was handy but we thought it would be more central from its descriptions. Breakfast was not included in the 95 euros per room per night price. We left every morning deciding not to bother the wooden and unapproachable receptionist to ask where the breakfast room was. When we were leaving we paid by cash, she didn't look up from her computer screen then raised her eyebrows and said 'bye'. The White Hotel has some interesting features by Belgian Designers, but I would just suggest a browse around it's bar/lobby before leaving again. That's if they'd allow you to.
