Old Synagogue, {CATEGORY}
This outstanding Renaissance synagogue was built at the very end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century, with periodic renovations taking place up until the present day. It was built against the medieval walls of Kazimierz - fragments of which can still be seen to the left of the building - and today, the exterior of the edifice more or less looks like it did in the 16th century. Inside is a comprehensive exhibition portraying aspects of Jewish culture and religion - from birth and education to marriage and death. Also included are cultural artefacts, clothing, Torah scrolls and various pieces of documentary evidence on the Nazi persecution and genocide. All notices and texts are in Polish and English.
